PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME 2008/ 09

Last season was successful for Ulster Junior Squash. Most notably, it was the first year of the new Ulster coaching structure, the Improving Performance Programme (IPP). There were over 50 players in last year’s programme, which allowed players regular access to coaching. Last year also saw the resurrection of the Junior Grand Prix tournaments in a new revised format to give more competition to novice and intermediate players.

This coming season sees further exciting developments within Junior Squash in Ulster. The introduction of the Individual Athlete Programme (IAP) gives support to those athletes who wish to focus on achieving representative success for both Ireland and Northern Ireland. The programme will aim to individualise the training programme of our most committed and successful juniors as they progress toward their target of the Commonwealth Games.

Please read the information on each squad thoroughly, as the programme has been changed quite significantly to reflect feedback received from athletes, coaches and players. It is the aim of the programme to ensure all Squad members receive quality coaching and expertise, whilst offering good value for money.

The overall vision for the programme is:

  • To create strong structures within Ulster Squash which will support and foster the long term development  of Ulster players and coaches;

  • To create athletes capable of successfully representing Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth games by facilitating access to the training, competition and support necessary for world class performance;

If you have any comments or queries regarding the programme please contact Martin Woods by email, martin.woods@ulstersquash.com, or by mobile on 07891 145 785.

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 9th April 2008.

Please ensure all applications are received by this date as squad places are limited, and will ensure that players can attend all squad sessions.

Players shall be notified of the decision of the panel as soon as possible after the application date closes. Appeals should be made in writing to the Performance Officer within 14 days of the original decision being made and the Performance Officer will formally reply in writing within 14 days of receipt by him/her of an appeal.
